What else would you call the act of jumping off a cliff or a bridge with your legs tied to just a rubber rope, just for a kick? Well, madness aside, it was one of the best things that I have done in the recent past. The long weekend at Cairns was an action-packed one, full of partying, gambling, snorkeling, driving, swimming, and of course, bungee-jumping off a 165-feet high bridge.
Getting yourself to jump off the edge is the most difficult part and is against all your basic human instincts. And once you jump, there is a moment when everything stops… your breathing, your heart-beats, your brains, your voice, your ability to hear… you think know that you are going to die. It is an amazing moment… one that you treasure all your life. And the thrill and the rush of adrenalin through the whole process make it totally worth it.
5 Reasons why everyone should do it-
- For the sheer thrill and the rush you get
- For the feeling of triumph it provides you, once you are done
- For the sake of pushing yourself out of your comfort zone
- For adding to the stories that you can tell your grand-children
- For the sheer craziness of the concept
5 pre-requisites for doing a bungee-
- Lack of any heart-related diseases
- A spirit of adventure
- Some courage (actually, loads of it)
- Enthu company - its not something you do alone!
- Some dough (there are no free lunges!)
5 common myths about bungee-jumps-
- It can hurt your back and muscles (its totally smooth)
- Knocking a few drinks helps (trust me, once you are up there, you get as sober as you have ever been)
- You might feel sick in the stomach (You just feel great)
- Accidents are not uncommon (in fact, they are very, very rare)
- You have to be crazy or drunk to do it (Yours truly did it in a state of sobriety)
- Book beforehand. Making a payment raises the exit barrier if you chicken out.
- Always go first… that way you can laugh at your friends who go later, when they are on the brink of a nervous breakdown
- If you drink, then get drunk… it helps till you get on the jump-board, which is when you get back to being sober
- Use the band-aid theory – one quick motion (easier said!)
- Go for the video/pics option...It's something you'll cherish

Cool!
Oz has some awesome opportunities for such sports. If you have the stomach for it, u must also try rolling down the hill encased in a ball! (can't remember what it's called)
cheers,
anuja
It really looks like it would be a blast.
I will tell you that you should scuba dive if you have the chance. It is one of the best things I have ever done.
You lucky man !! Envy you !
Thanks for dropping by on my blog. I think we should now formally declare Mithun-da as the one true God of Bollywood.
@Anuja - Thanks for visiting. The rolling down the hill sounds awesome... but next on the agenda is sky-diving (when I manage to save enough money for it).
@Peter - Thanks! I am not a very confident swimmer, and hence am not very enthusiastic about water adventure sport. But I enjoyed my snorkeling experience tremendously.. so scuba diving may come about too... though not anytime soon
@Bombay Addict - Thanks a lot! And yes.. Mithun-da is the only true God of Bollywood :) Have you managed to see Chingari?
u r bullshitting mann...thats not ya...u got scared when i pushed u outta my car (at loudon street crossing..remember :)] and u jumping off there...thats just bulls shit..
Super stuff..!
@Tulsi - Bwahahaha... well, I have a video and some close range pics to prove it. Will send you the pics once I have scanned them
@Pratyush - Thanks for dropping by :)
try rapelling.... itz something like descending a mountain by hanging from a rope.... it feels riskier than bungee jumping, and never EVER lose your mittens while rapelling.
@Priya - Sounds rather risky and maybe involves more exertion too (Yawn). I am still taking baby steps :)
